New portal and processes to support disabled and neurodivergent colleagues

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the introduction of a new portal to offer support for disabled and neurodivergent colleagues. The portal provides a support framework which allows colleagues and managers to discuss, explore and implement reasonable adjustments to remove or overcome barriers to work.

The University recognises that to be an inclusive community, supporting our disabled colleagues is paramount. In response to feedback provided by disabled colleagues through the colleague engagement survey, a review to improve our approach was undertaken including significant consultation with our campus trade unions, the disability equality group, and a range of colleagues in diverse roles.

From the review we have improved our online guidance through a new suite of support including guidance for managers when considering adjustments, from becoming aware of the need for adjustments through to exploring, agreeing, implementing, and then periodically reviewing appropriate adjustments.

Further, a new automated workflow process means when a colleague updates their People XD record (previously known as Core HR) either at the point of joining the University, or during their existing employment, they will be prompted to confirm whether they would appreciate a workplace discussion about reasonable adjustments. If confirmed, this will then send an automated message to their line manager to prompt them to set up a discussion.

We understand that not all colleagues seeking adjustments will wish to use this option and may still request support through other means, such as at regular meetings with their manager.

In addition, a “Reasonable Adjustments Passport” has been developed.  This optional and complementary form acts as a live record of adjustments discussed and agreed between colleagues and their managers.

The portal and the process improvements have been designed to ensure constructive and supportive conversations between colleagues and their line managers.

The portal is available on the POD website, or colleagues can update their People XD diversity details by logging into their personal Employee Dashboard.
