February events, meetings, a new start, and several proposal submissions!

What Happened in February

Following SCAF contribution to the Scotland Beyond Net Zero event in January, we had the opportunity to present the breadth of research and contributions in the field of food to MSP Sarah Boyack, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Just Transition, a long-time advocate for a just transition in the context of the climate emergency.

In February, there was also an opportunity to represent SCAF and SCAF opportunities to the European Crucible and SULSA One Health Workshop attendees.

The European Crucible, which followed the very successful Scottish Crucible model, bring together academic researchers both from Scotland and European countries to foster multidisciplinary research collaboration and impact. The SULSA One Health Workshop, on February 27th in Inverness, aimed to coalesce interest in One Health from different perspectives, determining the breadth and depth of expertise across Scotland, discuss the strategic approach to funding, identifying consortium members and potential lead institutions/individuals within specific sub-themes. There is scope for SCAF to play a role in the next step of this SULSA-led initiative.

It was also great to see many colleagues and SCAF members at the Good Food Nation Conference in Edinburgh, which led to insightful conversations, which we hope to follow-up in the coming months.

We also welcomed Murphy Farrell, who will intern with SCAF for 6 months and will contribute to our effort in showcasing SCAF research capacity on our website. We also received 10 applications to our first pump priming round, and are now busy processing the submissions… outcomes to be announced soon!
